VALE ALEC FORBES

South African racing lost a well respected jockey with the passing of KZN based rider Alec Forbes earlier today.

Alec, who had ridden five horses yesterday, had been fluish” before using the sweat box to lose weight for a ride and felt worse when he got home. Rushed to hospital, he sadly passed away in the early hours this morning.

Forbes enjoyed plenty of success, and rode Highland Night to win the G1 Gold Cup in 2002, and Equus Champion Link Man to secure the G1 Gold Medallion in 2010.

Other notable horses he rode included champion Val De Ra, Oaks winner Gleaming Sky, and the G1 winners Shoe Shac, Zeeno and Bambina Stripes.

He leaves behind his wife, trainer Lezeanne, and children Savannah and Jordan.
