ACT ONE DIES

Top racehorse Act One died recently. He was 11.

A beautifully bred horse, the talented grey was unbeaten at two. His wins as juvenile included the Gp1 Criterium International, where he beat French 2000 Guineas winner Landseer, and the Gp3 Thomas Bryon (beating Gp1 winner Rouvres).

He made just three starts as a sophomore, winning two. His wins included a score in the Gp1 Prix Lupin, and he ended his career with a second place in the Prix du Jockey Club, where Act One was downed by globetrotting superstar Sulamani.

A son of In the Wings, Act One hailed from the prolific family, responsible for such champions as Bosra Sham, Lammtarra, Dance Act and Hector Protector.

At stud, Act One was best known as the sire of South African champion Dancer’s Daughter. A grey, like her sire, Dancer’s Daughter won five Gr1 races during her racing career, and will forever be remembered for her dead heat with champion Pocket Power in the 2008 Vodacom Durban July.
