ANAMOE RETIRED

21 Apr 2023 11:14

Anamoe, Godolphin’s most successful horse ever at group 1 level, will retire to stud, becoming a Darley stallion for the 2023 season.
The 4-year-old, who enjoyed a record nine group 1 victories, will join the roster at Kelvinside in the NSW Hunter Valley.
Over three consecutive seasons, Anamoe was a brilliant flagbearer for Team Godolphin and Australia’s head trainer, James Cummings, winning 14 (plus eight placings) of his 25 starts and earning prize money of more than AU$12 million (US$7,710,095).
Anamoe retires from racing as only the second Australian horse in more than 20 years to win a group 1 at 2, 3, and 4.
At 3, he won the Caulfield Guineas (G1) before taking the Rosehill Guineas (G1) by more than six lengths ahead of a controversial second place in the Cox Plate (G1) when he suffered some interference from the winner.
Such performances captured the attention of racing enthusiasts worldwide and the champion 3-year-old continued his rich vein of form at 4, winning six group 1 races from 1,400m to 2,040m—including last year’s Cox Plate.
