No joy for Beach Bomb, Isivunguvungu

11 Aug 2025 11:51

South African racing fans had little to celebrate in North America this past Saturday.
Dual South African G1 winner Beach Bomb could only finish fifth in Saturday’s G2 Beverly D Stakes at Colonial Downs, while former Equus Champion Sprinter Isivunguvungu was beaten three lengths when unplaced on the same card.

After making a mild bid near the furlong pole, Beach Bomb flattened out to be beaten just over three lengths by the victorious Charlene’s Dream. It is the first time in 2025 that Beach Bomb has missed finishing first or second.
Dual G1 winner Isivunguvungu, and Beach Bomb’s stablemate, could only manage sixth place in Saturday’s Van Clief Stakes at Colonial Downs.

After suffering a wide trip through much of Saturday’s five and a half furlong contest, Isivunguvungu had to settle for sixth place.
