Prince of Arran retired after finishing fifth in September Stakes and failing tests to enter Melbourne Cup; trainer Charlie Fellowes wins first domestic Group race as Eve Lodge wins Sirenia Stakes at KemptonPrince Of Arran put up a solid performance in the September Stakes – won by the William Haggas-trained Hamish – but Fellowes felt the time was right to bring the curtain down on his career, after authorities in Australia informed him the eight-year-old would not be permitted to run in the Melbourne Cup for a fourth time.”We retire a sound and happy horse and he’ll have a fantastic retirement wherever that may be.”For someone at this stage of my career with a horse like him, some of the days I’ve had have been so special.”We’ve travelled all around the world with him and he’s been an utter superstar. I can’t thank his owners enough or the many people in our yard who have had such an impact on his career.”
The eight year old gelded son of Shirocco won six of his 49 nine starts (including the 2018 G3 Hotham Handicap and 2019 G3 Geelong Cup), but was best known for securing places in the G1 Melbourne Cup in 2018,2019 and 2020.
Prince Of Arran finished third in the Melbourne Cup in 2018 and 2020, and was second in Australia’s most famous horse-race in 2019
