The LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings (for 3yos and upwards which raced between 1st January 2024 and 8th September 2024)

As a result of his victory in the Juddmonte International Stakes (G1), CITY OF TROY (USA) [127] is now the second-highest rated horse and highest rated turf horse in the seventh edition of the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2024.

City of Troy surprised many by leading from the start in the Juddmonte. He ultimately defeated CALANDAGAN (IRE) [125] by a length and set a new track record in the process. City of Troy, who has also won the Coral-Eclipse (G1) and Betfred Derby (G1) this year, raised his rating to 127 from 123 with his triumph.

Calandagan, meanwhile, is now in the co-third position in the rankings. He came into the Juddmonte having won the King Edward VII Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot by six lengths, and his other victories this year include the Prix Hocquart (G3) and Prix Noailles (G3).

Also joining the Top 5 is FIERCENESS (USA) [123]. He improved his rating to 123 from 121 when he defeated THORPEDO ANNA (USA) [120] by a head in the DraftKings Travers Stakes (G1). SIERRA LEONE (USA) [120] was third, while DORNOCH (USA) [121] was fourth. Fierceness came into the Travers having won the Jim Dandy Stakes presented by Mohegan Sun (G2), and earlier this season, he won the Curlin Florida Derby (G1).

CHARYN (IRE) [122] also has improved his rating, moving to 122 from 120 after taking the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois (G1) by three lengths. He was initially ranked after winning the Queen Anne Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot. In his latest start, Charyn finished second behind the newly-ranked TRIBALIST (GB) [120] in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp (G1).

Other newcomers to the rankings this month include ECONOMICS (GB) [121] and FANTASTIC MOON (GER) [120]. Economics, who has won all three of his starts in 2024, most recently took the Prix Guillaume d’Ornano (G2), and he won the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante Stakes (G2) in May. Fantastic Moon, meanwhile, is ranked after winning the WETTSTAR.de – 154th Grosser Preis von Baden (G1).
