FIRST WINNER FOR STARMAN

31 Mar 2025 09:05

Top-class sprinter Starman became the latest first season sire to get off the mark on Friday. Dundalk’s gossip was red-hot about the debutante Lady Iman  on Friday and the 4-6 favourite did not disappoint to get her Tally-Ho Stud-based first-season sire Starman off to a flyer. Happy to stalk early, the Ger Lyons-trained half-sister to the G2 Blue Point Sprint and G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint winner West Acre took control two out and despite running green was the authoritative 3 1/2-length winner.
Lady Iman was the first runner for her sire, who has made the perfect start to his stud career.
Starman, a son of Dutch Art landed the G1 July Cup for owner-breeder David Ward and Ed Walker. The talented sprinter was unraced at two but made up for lost time when winning his first three starts at three, including the Garrowby Stakes, and then the G2 Duke Of York Stakes and G1 July Cup at four.

Also a narrow second in the G1 Sprint Cup and third in the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, he retired to Tally-Ho at the end of that season and debuted for a fee of €17,500.

The champion sprinter covered a book of 254 mares, with those resulting progeny selling for up to 260,000gns as yearlings last year.
