Coolmore on Tuesday announced the death of their sire Choisir at the age of 22. Choisir, by Danehill Dancer out of the Lunchtime mare Great Selection, has sired 100 stakewinners in a remarkable 12 countries including 11 Group 1 winners.
He stood at both Coolmore Ireland and Australia after blazing a trial in the UK in 2003 at four-years-of-age winning the Group 1 Royal Ascot Golden Jubilee Stakes over 1200m and the then Group 2 King’s Stand Stakes over 1000m at Royal Ascot, before placind second in the Group 1 July Cup over 1200m at Newmarket.His race record was seven wins and 11 placings from 23 starts earning stakes of $2,258,545.
One of Choisir’s Group 1 winners, Starspangledbanner, went one better than Choisir by winning the July Cup at Newmarket as well at the Caufield Guineas, Oakleigh Plate and equalling his sire in the Golden Jubilee Stakes.
